Safety Bulletin

Recently one of the crew (no name will be mentioned but he is Polish) locked himself in the telephone booth on the B deck.
He was going to call his future wife to talk about arrangements for his upcoming marriage.
When he finished the call after several hours he found himself trapped in the telephone booth since the door lock was broken. Normally there is a cue waiting for the telephone booth to make telephone calls, but this time there was nobody waiting to rescue this unfortunate crew member. Also nobody was passing by to come to the rescue. Screaming for help was not heard by anybody.
This way the unfortunate Polish guy spent 20 minutes of his life not knowing if he would make it to the next day.
Luckily he got his things together and he phoned his agency in Poland to explain the situation.
His agency then called Van Oord Crewing emergency distress safety rescue notification number, where after they sent an e-mail to the Captain asking him to organize a rescue party for the ill fated crew member.
The Captain did not hesitate a second and ran to the rescue of the desperate polish crew member.
After some very distressful time he was finally released and could start his watch immediately.

Lessons learned:

- When you go to make a telephone call, make sure you eat plenty before.
- Always bring a big sledge hammer into the telephone booth.
- Make sure you know the ships V-Sat telephone number in case you need to call for back up.
- Bring a bottle of water, books, MP3 player, magazines, clean underwear and socks to survive
a few days in the telephone booth.
- Do not make your marriage arrangements over the telephone.
- Don’t call your wife at all.
