Sandnessjøen party!

While the vessel was alongside due to waiting on weather recently, the crew of Nordnes initiated and facilitated a small party on board of the vessel, inviting a number of interested people and representatives of the local community in Sandnessjøen on 25th October 2008. Among the visitors were local dignitaries, quarry personnel with their partners and of course our local representative Svein and his wife. After the initial proposal of organising such a party, the quarry management immediately agreed to co-operate to full extent and arranged a local band to play on board for the crew and guests.
After the guests had a brief guided tour around the vessel, the party took off in the messroom, which was converted into a small party hall for the occasion. Our galley crew had surpassed themselves preparing snacks and drinks for everyone, as always very nicely presented. For the rare occasion an exemption was made with regards to the non-alcohol policy on board, leading to some very surprised crew: not only beer was available, but one, when ordering a beer, was being asked: “What kind of beer?
The captain and crew were delighted to receive some very appropriate gifts on the occasion. As the pictures show, a very nice framed photograph from the Syv Søstre (Seven Sisters) was received from Aquarock quarry management and a plaquette of the Alstahaug coat of arms together with a magnificient photobook and tour guide of the beautiful Alstahaug Kommune area was given by the deputy mayor of Sandnessjøen. It may be very obvious that the presents meanwhile have found a very prominent place in the accommodation of Nordnes and represent for the crew a very nice memory to what was for most of them the first introduction with the local people.
After the band (and some more very talented people) stopped playing, they joined the complete company and moved on to a local establishment where the ties of newly aquired friendships between the crew and locals were further extended, until late, very late....
